It’s been a while that our whole family got into a vacation in the beach. I coordinated with my sons to be available on a certain date and fortunately, we all synched out schedules nicely. My grandchildren were so stoked that we planned a beach getaway. My wife, Audrey reminded all of us to put on a sunblock with a high SPF an hour before going out under the sun and try reapplying every hour of whenever the lotion wears out.
The kids were now building sandcastles with me as my wife chills on a hammock under a good shade. My two sons brought out their surfboards and tried making another competition out of it. It really never goes old with these two as they always compete with each other especially when they were younger. I remember when they were young, Andrea bought them bikes and they always tried racing each other. It was a fun and healthy competition between the two. It always makes them strive and be better. As I still reminisce and being nostalgic, I saw my wife strolling down the beach and then I saw her talking with some other girls. It took her almost an hour chatting with them as I just sat in the shade drinking my iced, cold beer.
My grandchildren pulled me off my chair to ask me to help them again with their sand castles. I told them that the sands need to be wet and packed so that they will take their shape properly. They also have to use a solid instrument like a shovel to help them make designs. I told them that we also used to have these kinds of beach getaways when their dads were young. I also taught them making sandcastles as I was also teaching their children. I added that I was also the one who trained their dads on how to swim and surf and now, they are much, much better than me. They were shocked and awed with the stories I told them. They gave me a long, tight hug as I saw Andrea walking towards us.
Andrea came back and told me what happened. She saw girls who had a really bad second degree sunburn and they were applying toothpaste. She told them that it was just going to aggravate the wound and if they didn’t bring any burn anti bacterial ointments, they can ask nearby restaurants for some vinegar for sunburn. Vinegars are known as antiseptics and have anti bacterial properties that can heal wounds. They thanked Andrea profusely as she bid them goodbye. They even invited her for some drinks as a thank you but she told them she couldn’t drink because she had to take care of her grandchildren.
I was so pleased that Andrea shared some of her knowledge to other people thus helping them go through with it. I told our family what happened and they were so impressed with my wife. We are so proud of her. I love my wife Andrea.
